I am writing this in the hope of beginning to heal a terrible and unnecessary wound. What follows can best be described as a theological treatise on a portion of Biblical truth from a layman's viewpoint. In this work, I begin by examining the divisive nature of the 'mystery' of the Godhead. This division sometimes manifests itself in church "splits" and differing denominations. I propose a way to possibly come together, a path toward unity based upon an acceptance of all scripture, coupled with personal honesty. I have become certain that no one can be totally sure of the nature of God, till the glass through which we see darkly, has been removed. In this work, I examine classic doctrinal teachings regarding both the oneness of God and the triune nature of God. I demonstrate that both views of the nature of Christ fail to consider the complete teachings of the scriptures on this subject. If neither doctrine can explain all scripture, yet we claim to believe all scripture is true and given by God, then something is in error with both doctrines. Since no doctrine seems to be completely correct, why have we even let this issue divide us for so long?
