Why Did Napoleon Lose at Waterloo

A study of the options and possible outcomes of the battles culminating in the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte's attempt to return to power. The options are explored in a series of war games developed by the creator of Jeremiah and the Conflict Simulation Lab at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

The approach taken is different from most books on the subject. We present the results of hundreds of simulations of the four battles of the Last Campaign, played by numerous participants over a period of many years. The conclusions reached are based solely on the outcomes of these simulated battles rather than the opinion of an 'arm-chair General.' Of particular interest is what did or did not happen at Wavre -- a battle which gets scant attention by most histories.

The Appendices contain several papers by the author on relevant subjects including the Theory of War Games and Simulations, the development of the Simulation used in this study, and an example, "The Battle for Hugomont Chateau."
