The Tao Te Ching (Dao De Jing), the Book of the Way and Virtue, was written by Laozi in China during the fifth or sixth century BCE, a time of political turmoil and chaos. This period also saw the rise of influential sages and philosophers globally, including Siddhartha Gautama, Confucius, Socrates, and the Hebrew prophets.

Notably, the Tao Te Ching and the Bible share similarities. Both encourage followers to seek a higher way-God's way of holiness, justice, and mercy in the Bible, and a harmonious life with nature in the Tao Te Ching. Laozi asserts that the Way connects earth and heaven, echoing Jesus's teaching in Matthew 6:10 to pray for God's way and will be realized on earth.

Engaging with the Tao Te Ching can be beneficial for Christians. It emphasizes our limitations and the importance of harmony with nature, broadens our understanding of God, and encourages a critical examination of theological beliefs.
