Why AI Will Not Wipe Out Humanity: Engineering Limits Human Choices and the Future We Can Build

By: Thorsten Bellinger

Could artificial intelligence threaten humanity's survival-and what would a safer future actually require?

Warnings about AI are everywhere. Understanding them takes more than alarming headlines. It takes a clear look at how these systems work, what they can do, and how people can keep them under control.

Why AI Will Not Wipe Out Humanity presents a carefully reasoned case for an optimistic future while taking the strongest arguments for catastrophic risk seriously.

From the earliest experiments in machine intelligence to today's models and autonomous agents, Thorsten Bellinger explores the engineering limits, safeguards, and human decisions that shape what happens next.

Inside, you'll explore:

- How modern AI systems work-and where their capabilities meet practical limits
- Why warnings about catastrophic risk deserve scrutiny, and where uncertainty remains
- How restricted access, independent evaluation, secure system design, and accountable deployment can reduce danger
- What meaningful human control requires when systems become more capable
- How AI could support advances in medicine, education, scientific discovery, and other fields

Technical explanations, documented cases, and real scenarios connect the debate to choices we can actually make.

Written for curious readers who want depth without needing a computer science degree, this book offers a grounded framework for thinking about one of the most consequential technologies of our time.

A beneficial AI future depends on choices we can begin making today.
