Superlatives Aren't Enough

It's one thing to read a great young poet. But I also had the pleasure of seeing Kim Calder read from her collection earlier this year at a cafe in Los Angeles. The appreciative audience was stunned by her remarkable ability to describe life as it is with deep, personal honesty and clarity, straight from the gut. Unlike so many writers, Ms. Calder knows how to connect raw emotions with genuine experience. These poems will prick you. You'll know that you're alive. And that's good.

moment of clarity

I had no idea what sort of journey I would be lead on when I first opened this book. There were no road blocks to unnerving emotions along the way, and each step was both bittersweet and satisfying. Kim writes with a mysterious clarity that is both brutally raw and honest, a pin point of light in all the chaos. She has a voice that we can identify with, reflect on the shared moments, and hungerly wait for more.

Kim Calder is truly an up-and-coming talent--hear her read in person and you will know that she writes not just because she can, but because she MUST. May there be plenty more to come...
