A great factual history novel

This novel is so real that it seams that you are walking on the Birmingham streets. Dunning plays with his knowledge of the English language using very rich vocabulary; some descriptions are Poet's work. He also has a profound knowledge of the Human behavior and a strong historical background with a clear understanding of what is really happening in this Country; all the silent but brutal racial and religious conflicts. Overall, this is an excellent masterpiece that deserves to be in any best-seller's collection.

A must-have for professionals and educators!

Who's Mack Oliver? weaves a fascinating tale of the convergence of culture, class, addiction and mental illness in a masterful way. The characters depicted represent not only individuals whom everyone has met at some point in their lives, but also personify stereotypes ever-present in the South. Dunning does a great job at depicting just how racism and prejudice emerge, and gives us hope for a better tomorrow. This is a great novel to invoke insightful and meaningful discussions among all groups of people, which is a great beginning to achieving understanding and tolerance in our culturally diverse world. I look forward to more literary works by this author. It is apparent that he knows his subject matter well and is passionate about his work.

More than just a crime novel!

What an excellent book! Everyone should read. The fact that it was a crime novel got my attention, but what kept it is the authors way of grabbing your attention and keeping it through the entire book (which I read in one day--couldn't put it down). He uses great descriptions and vividly shares things about each character that makes you feel like you know them. I was most excited about how I was changed personally by the book. It surprisingly made me look at the way I view myself and other people and the world. It was a life-altering, suspenseful and insightful story. I'm hooked on the author, whom i hope writes another one soon!

I loved it!! This book is a real page turner and I could not put it down once I began to read it. The author, Jonathan Dunning, has a very unique way of portraying his characters and makes his book seem like a true story. I can't wait to see if there will be a sequel because I know that it will be just as good as this one. You must buy this book now and get one for a friend!!!!
