General Joseph W. Stilwell was an American officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in both in World War I and World War II and rose to the rank of four star general. Stilwell served four tours of duty in China and during World War II he commanded all U.S. forces and selected Chinese forces, in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was also a multi-talented man of high character: an athlete, a linguist, teacher, a poet for his family, had a great sense of humor, was a good amateur artist, a musician, and most of all a patriot. He was known for his respect and admiration for the Chinese people, culture, and the Chinese soldiers. Today, Stilwell's friendship with the Chinese people and contributions to China during World War II are warmly remembered by the Chinese people.
