Read it and Reap!

Being fairly new to the direct sales business, I am always looking for information or ideas that will help me get started off right. Kirk's book, "Who sold my cheese?" is exactly such a resource. It uses an entertaining and easy-to-read fable to explain what true relationship-based selling is and is not. It also helps people overcome their feelings of fear and rejection in selling by pointing out simple truths like, "Everyone is in sales", and "If you didn't have the sale before you asked, and you don't have the sale after you asked, what have you really lost?" The most impactful statement for me in the whole book was "Ask and you shall receive, if you don't/can't/wont ask, how can you possibly receive?" The same week I read this book and applied the lessons therein, I signed up 5 new customers! Usually I had to chase customers but now they are beginning to chase me. Buy the book, read the book, obey the book and reap the rewards!

Relationship Building enables Sales!

I just finished reading Who Sold my Cheese and really enjoyed it. Kirk does a great job of explaining the fundamentals of relationship-based selling in a fun and easy to understand way. If you have ever been intimidated by the sales process or want to improve your relationship building skills and get away from the "stereotypical" salesperson image this is the book for you. I highly recommend it for anybody new to the direct sales and/or home party plan business!

Who Sold My Cheese is Breath of Fresh Air in a Stale Subject

I must say, I honestly never expected to like this book as much as I did. Who Sold My Cheese is a fable within a fable. It's a story of a cheese farmer, Ben Porterfield, who happily lets his salesman, Tommy, do all of his selling for him. Then Tommy suddenly dies and Ben is forced to learn how to sell his own cheese. He discovers through his father's old journals that selling is much more about building relationships than pushing your product. The book does a great job of explaining the differences between a peddler and a salesman. A peddler is someone is just wants to sell you their product no matter if you need it or not. A salesman is interested in helping his customers succeed by learning about their business and creating long term mutually beneficial relationships. Ben uncovers a set of fundamental selling principles as he travels to meet new prospects and is surprised that his own fear of rejection has held him back from success. This book is an inspiring read for someone who knows they need to be doing more selling, but does not feel confident in their efforts. Like Ben Porterfield, the reader is encouraged to integrate a set of core sales principles with their own personal style. This book is a delight to read. The story of Ben is told with a warm and engaging tone and I found myself rooting for Ben at every turn. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels that sales is cold or impersonal and beyond their capacity. You will feel encouraged and look at sales in a whole new way after your journeys with Ben.

The content is transferable to any industry and is applicable to all employees within an organization. I would highly recommend business owners purchase this book for their staff. You will not be disappointed with the outcome.

Who Sold My Cheese

This is a very well written book on how to start a relationship based sales method. It inspired me and has calmed some of the fears I had in starting a program to sell and market my products. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting out and also professionals that have forgotten what being a salesperson is all about.
