Great information in an engaging style

This book truly will help my grandchildren identify scat and tracks. I would give this book a full five stars except it begins with a little boy who is frightened of grizzly bears. My 6-year-old granddaughter doesn't need any suggestion of being afraid of grizzlies. Her older brothers (ages 12 and 13) will adore the in-depth discussion of poop! We'll need to set aside several hours for tracking while we're at Yellowstone.

poop book is a hit

My friend recommended this book to me since we're headed to Yellowstone NP. I can see where you can really use this book to see what kind of wildlife is around you at the park. I appreciated that it was written for specifically the animals found in Yellowstone. Clever idea and a very informative book. I'd get the other "Who Pooped in..." books for our other travels in the future.

Good book for kids

Reads like s a story with a family going to the park. Good for kids to read on the way there so its fresh in their minds. Nice drawing, wish there had been real photos also.

Riley loves it!

I just want to add on to Randalph's great review that my four year old grandson loves this book. It's now one of his favorite books.

If you are taking a kid into the park, buy this book!

Lighthearted and fun, this book manages to be highly informative without bogging down. I grew up wanting to be a "true" woodsman, but every book on tracking and animal scat identification I have ever seen reads like a college textbook -- certainly no fun for a kid to read. This one is different. Written as the story of a family visiting Yellowstone Park, "Who Pooped?" hits all the bases. The kids learn how to identify the scat of the major critters in the park -- and, for example, why wolf scat has hair in it. They also learn how to identify the tracks of those same animals, with helpful details, like how to tell the difference between the tracks of elk and moose. The author has a great knack for making it all sound so simple and easy, while giving readers a great deal of information. The most helpful stuff is the "background" on the animals. When you learn that mountain lions can keep their claws retracted, it is suddenly much easier to tell the difference between a wolf track and a mountain lion track. There are little tidbits all through the book, called "Straight Poop," with enough expert information to please parents who want a trip to be educational. And the story of the traveling family is cute and easygoing. I must admit to an irresistible temptation to ask the author for a companion volume, one on identifying the tire tracks of monster SUVs in the parking lots of Yellowstone. Of course it should be titled "Who Parked in the Poop?" -Randalph
