Who diverted Kabba from Algeria to Saudi Arabia

This book argues that French colonial rule in Algeria

(1830-1962) systematically engineered what I term

"Colonial Islam" a simplified, categorized, and

controlled version of Islamic practice designed to

facilitate colonial governance. This project unfolded in

three distinct phases:

1. The Military Phase (1830-1870): Physical destruction

of religious institutions and co-optation of religious

elites.

2. The Scientific Phase (1870-1914): Ethnographic

categorization and fragmentation of Islamic practicethrough the work of the cole d'Alger.

3. The Institutional Phase (1900-1930): Creation of

state-controlled mosques, schools, and religious

bureaucracies
