G. C. Whiticar grew up in a family that made their living in the waters of New Jersey and Florida. He became a commercial fisherman, charter boat captain, and then a boat builder. At the age of 95 years, he was asked to write down some of his life experiences. The book focuses on growing up and living in Florida during the early 20th century. He became an accomplished artist and the book also contains his sketches as well as some of his paintings of historical places where he lived. His incredible memory of events along with the sketches and pictures makes the book enjoyable from cover to cover.
