Not "Very Good Condition"...

This copy arrived at my house dingy and the binding is almost completely detached from the pages. This is a garbage copy and should be advertised as such. I have to purchase a second copy to replace this waste.

Loved it

Good book

Nice twist in the series plot

***** First part is not a spoiler. ***** I loved this latest installment to the Hallows series! Note to the wary: If you are not the kind of person who enjoys an involved, series-long master plot that needs to be carefully followed, you might not enjoy this book. On the other hand, if you like books that make you keep track of multiple plot lines and get very involved in gritty character development, this will be a great series. And do start with the first book first- you'll miss most of the sub plot references if you don't. There's a nice twist in the series plot with this book. At the end of "Outlaw", it looked like we were going to be taken back into the ever after to see Rachel trained as a demon with Al. In reality, we go into some very murky Interlander/human politics, with a good, up-close look at vampire politics specifically. We also get to see Edden be a typical dad. We get to see Glenn accept his tomato fascination. And we get to see Rachel learn to love raspberry Esspresso! ***** Spoiler part coming up!! ***** That said, I like how Kim Harrison handled Kisten's death, using it to force both Rachel and Ivy to face their true natures. This books sees Ivy being forced to accept her vampire nature and why she needed blood even though she wasn't yet dead. Rachel was forced to acknowledge the darker side of her magic and the fact that she's not really a witch anymore. It delves into the whole Jenks/Matalina dying side of things. And with a brief cameo, Trent is set up to maybe do some big personal growth in the next installment. We got to meet a few characters who are a critical part to our main characters: Rachel's brother, Ivy's sister, and the FIB psychologist Ford. We got to see Art from Ivy's short story and her obnoxious ex-boss Dennen die in a satisfying but gross way. We got to meet Rachel's ghost witch again. We learn a bit more about the gargoyle, Bis, and what he's capable of being for Rachel in future novels. We get to meet the darker side of Rymm Cormel (he's not evil in the traditional sense, but he's not all that different from Piscery). Ok, I'd keep going, but there is just too much going on in this book. Read it for yourself and make sure you take your time reading it. This book had me laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time, and riveted from the first page to the last.

Finally Ivy has real Hope!

OK first I have to say that I strongly disagree with most of the negative reviews. The reason why is you are missing the point of what Kisten's Death revealed. **Spoilers** beware. Most of us already figured that Kisten died as a result of a vampire powerplay and/or revenge against Rachel. but that's not the point as I said ealier. the point is what happend in moment of his final breath, where it was revealed that his "human soul" returned to his body upon his death, finally giving Rachel the hope she and Ivy had been searching for since they became friends and partners. Hopefully Ms. Harrison will comtinue down this line of Rachel trying to save Ivy from her undead fate. As I said Earlier, this I believe, is the main point that Kim Harrison was trying to get past in this story. As for the rest of story, well honestly it wasn't the best in the series but, in my opion, it was still fun to read. And it also marked a turning point in the story with her being marked as a Black Witch and being shunned. As of Recenlty Rachel had gained a strong reputation for being a strong witch not to be messed with, but still being a good witch. Now however, she has been abandoned by the public and alone and now presented with the challenge of overcoming another unforeseen obstacle. Remember when Rachel went into the prison to talk to Skimmer, the gaurds let Skimmer attack Rach. Rach and anyone associated with her are now targets by the general public, and the public hates Black Witches. So I also forsee this being another main area of story that Ms. Harrison will pursue in the next book. ok so I am giving this book a 5 only becasue i cant give it a 4 1/2. the main reason is the profound realization that Kisten's Soul was returned to his human Body and the Hope that Ivy might one day be free of her undead Curse.

Solving Kisten's Killing and Other Mysteries

White Witch, Black Curse (2009) is the seventh fantasy novel in the Rachel Morgan series, following The Outlaw Demon Wails. In the previous volume, Rachel exchanged names with Al. Then Tom summoned Al from the ever-after and got Rachel instead. He and his coven were very surprised when they let her out of the circle. Rachel returned to the ever-after and made a deal. Now she is a student in demon magic with Al as her instructor. In this novel, Rachel Morgan still doesn't remember the deaths of Kisten. She now knows that Jenks had dosed her with a forget potion to prevent her from rushing out to face the undead killer. She realizes that he had probably saved her life, but she is still haunted by the memories of Kisten. Ivy Tamwood is a living vampire. She is also Rachel's roommate. They have been living together for a year, learning how to avoid angering each other. She too is still grieving over Kisten. Jenks is a pixie. He is a partner in the firm of Vampiric Charms and is now the owner of the church where they are living. He is married to Matalina and has about four dozen children at home in the old church. Ford is a Federal Inderland Bureau psychiatrist. He also senses emotions. He would rather not have this talent since he cannot block the feelings of others. Edden is the Captain of the FIB office in Cincinnati and the father of Detective Glenn. Edden hires Rachel occasionally to brief his people on lesser known Inderlander facts. Marshall is a former dive instructor who now lives in Cincinnati and attends the University. He is a friend of Rachel, but not a boyfriend. Tom Bansen is a former official within Inderland Security. He was shunned for his secret summoning of demons. In this story, Ivy still has not discovered anything new about the killer. Of course, she had not done anything for the first three months because she had been worried that she had killed Kisten. Now she is working on the killings, but not making much progress. But she is very sure that any purely human means will not help bring back the memories. Yet Rachel has begun remembering specific details about the killing of Kisten. It starts when Ford takes her to the drydocked boat where Kisten was killed. She remembers some of her own actions and a few details of the killer, but not his face or name. Marshall has come to the boat impound yard to give Rachel a ride back. She gets into the truck, has a last few words with Ford, and is ready to leave when Ford returns to the truck. Glenn is hurt and Edden wants her to come to the hospital. Rachel tells Marshall to leave and rides to the hospital with Ford. There she learns that Glenn had gone out after work to talk with some suspects in the death of a friend. He had been brutally beaten and left for dead. He survived only because he had left word of his whereabouts with friends and they found him before it was too late. Rachel goes to the crime scene with Ivy and Jenks. There she finds tha

Nothing's getting old yet!

Some wounds take time to heal . . . and some scars never fade. Rachel Morgan, kick-ass witch and bounty hunter, has taken her fair share of hits, and has broken lines she swore she would never cross. But when her lover was murdered, it left a deeper wound than Rachel ever imagined, and now she won't rest until his death is solved . . . and avenged. Whatever the cost. Yet the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and when a new predator moves to the apex of the Inderlander food chain, Rachel's past comes back to haunt her. Literally. Kim Harrison has again crafted a great novel, one that gives even more insight into the complicated relationships of Rachel, Ivy, Jinx and everyone else they've come into contact with throughout the series. Since Kisten's death Rachel has been desperately trying to put together the pieces of what happened, thinking that this will allow her to avenge his death and get on with her life. But like all good writers, Harrison doesn't let the reader, or Rachel, find an easy way out. Kisten's death has roots much further back in the past then any of them had suspected, and it is only through looking backward can they begin to move forward. Sounds corny, huh? In fact this story is filled with surprises and it reaffirms the fact that Harrison has created characters that anyone would be excited to get to know better. Hopefully she'll be able to keep it up and continue Rachel's adventures in future exciting stories. Overall Feeling - Thumbs (way) up. While you can't read this one without having the background of the first books, once you get to it it's well worth the wait. Series - 1) Dead Witch Walking 2) The Good the Bad and the Undead 3) Every Which Way But Dead 4) A Fistful of Charms 5) For a Few Demons More 6) The Outlaw Demon Wails 7) White Witch Black Curse Reading Amidst the Chaos - [...]

Best one yet

Loved this latest chapter in the life of Rachel Mariana Morgan. This book finally answers some questions that were left hanging after book 6. Rachel is obligated to meet with Al once a week so that she can make charms and spells for the devilish demon. Because of her association with black magic, she has been banished by the other witches and finds herself an outcast. Ivy, Rachel's vampire roommate, and Rachel are still grieving over the death of Kisten. Kisten, a vampire and Ivy's friend and former lover, was more recently involved with Rachel. Rachel's memory was altered so that she can't remember what happened when Kisten was finally and completely killed. Her memory slowly starts to come back. Rachel also has to deal with out of control banshees. As you can see, the characters are numerous but the story flows smoothly. I didn't have to backtrack to find out who was what and where. This fast paced book sometimes leaves your head spinning, but I found I couldn't put this book down. Because it is so well written, I had to find out what happens next. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I highly recommend.
