#3 OF THE WHIRLWIND SAGA - SHERIFF DAVIS LEE HOLT

WoW! Inside cover picture well worth portraying Sheriff Davis Lee Holt. Davis Lee is pushing 30, three years older than Riley and is very leary of any beautiful woman who might be a con. He was run out of Rock River two years ago and had his heart broken. He has settled in well at Whirlwind and tends to be very protective of this town. He is constantly checking the incoming and outgoing persons on the stage coach line. When Josie Webster, 21 shows up he starts to watch her movements and accosts her as she tries to blend in the shadows of the alley across from the jail. Makes him very suspicious. He wants to know her business here in Whirlwind and who she is. Now that she has been spotted she knows she cannot linger in the alley anymore. Josie informs the good people that she is a seamstress and uses that ability on Penn Waver, owner of the Whirlwind Hotel to allow her to move to a room fronting the street to watch the comings and goings of those at the jail. She meets and deals with Charlie Haskell and his 18 year old nephew, Mitchell Orr. Mitch helps out at the Haskell General Store. Davis Lee thwarts Mitch's plan to deliver material to Josie so that he can check out her room. . Josie knows that Ian McDougal is in that jail and she wants to make sure he doesn't escape a death sentence as he murdered her parents and fiance' 2 years ago. So much blood, it still gives her nightmares. Of course, Susannah, Riley's wife and Catherine see a good oportunity to do a little matchmaking with Davis Lee and Josie. Catherine asks Josie if she would make her wedding dress for her marriage to Jericho Blue. It seems like all of these girls makes plans to leave - before they fall in love with these virile, very masculine men. They don't have a chance. Ah, but a fire was set and Ian escapes -- woe to whomever engineered that escape. You won't believe who brings him back as Davis Lee is seriously wounded. This is another very entertaining story of wonderful characters of Whirlwind, Texas. As always it will hard to part with these family characters when the saga ends. Very Definitely Recommended --M

A delightful Texas late nineteenth century romance

In 1882 Galveston, Ian McDougal killed the fiancé and parents of Josie Webster. The judge freed the killer. Over the next two years, Ian and three siblings went on a murder rampage, but his siblings are dead and he waits trial in Whirlwind, Texas. For four days, Josie has staked out the jail. Her actions seems obvious to Sheriff Davis Lee Holt; he assumes she plans to help Ian escape, an action he will never allow to happen. Josie is in town working on insuring justice occurs as she does not trust the Republic's judicial system. If that means helping Ian break out so be it, but her plan also calls for killing Ian, as she lives for vengeance. At least that is all she has breathed since that judge set Ian free until she met the sheriff who has reawakened her other feelings besides hatred. The third "Whirlwind" western romance is a fabulous historical that sub-genre fans will believe is a post holiday treat. The story line contains two protagonists who do not trust the other gender, which leads to resisting the growing attraction to one another. Ian is a psychopath who enjoys killing so the audience will support and commiserate with Josie's need for closure with vengeance being her only hope.
