Gabriel Rusikov isn't a private investigator. He's a haunted combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps' Force Reconnaissance battalion posessed with a particular set of skills job experiences that are all but worthless in the civilian world. With a past too colorful to be a cop, and a divorce too expensive to forget, he turns to the thing he knows how do better than anything else: guard duty. But working for a lowest-bidder private security company barely pays for rent, tuition and booze; and it's the latter that gets him through the week. That all changes, however, when a reporter ends up as a cadaver on the evening news and, by pure rotten luck, Gabriel is the last person to see him alive and is pinned as the most likely culprit. With evidence stacking against him by the minute, Gabriel goes on the run and, in the process, runs into an old friend from his glory days. The two slowly grow into a a small group that work round the clock to find something, anything, that can prove that Gabe hasn't actually killed anyone; yet.
