If this, Cathi LaMarche's first novel, is just the tip of the iceberg, I can't wait for her Titanic moment. WHILE THE DAFFODILS DANCED is a heartwarming account of friendship, motherhood, betrayal, anguish, redemption, and so much more. It has vivid, loveable (and hateable) characters who keep you in their story well after you've closed the book. I want to read it again just to enjoy/confirm the foreshadowing which was sprinkled in in just the right amounts. I basked in the imagery, parallelism, use of *FRESH* similes and metaphors, and of course, the symbolism. It somewhat reminded me of Nicholas Sparks' deeply emotional stories, but WITHOUT the "beating you over the head with it so much that you want to gag because it seems like he's mocking you" part. Definitely a HUGE bonus there! Sorry, Nick, but I think you've been out-penned. Buy this book. Now.

I couldn't stop reading!

It's been a long while since I've picked up a book with such eloquent writing, such touching characters, such hope. The main character Cara, is so real, so well written, so human that I couldn't help feel that I was taking this journey with her. Being privy to her innermost thoughts, fears, and emotions made me feel as if I were one of her friends as well. I related so well with her feelings about putting her daughter up for adoption after learning that her boyfriend neglected to tell her he was married, with her shame that she felt she was failing her baby, with her irritation that her family seemed to think the situation merely a "problem" that would go away after the papers were signed, I found myself cheering for her when she found the inner strength to carry on and be true to herself, despite what others might think of her. With the impossibly deep new friendship Cara builds with a new neighbor, her realizations of what she needs to be truly happy, and a huge twist at the end, I felt a connection with this wonderful story that I haven't felt with a book in a long time. I would recommend this bookto anyone with a heart, and the capacity for compassion. You will be touched by this story, the characters, and the simple beauty of nature.

I'll never forget to stop and smell the flowers again

While the Daffodils Danced is a remarkable story of the emotions we all experience at one time or another--fear, sacrifice, loss, forgiveness, hope and love. It's a book that's rich in words and substance. I found myself haunted by Cara and her quest for happiness--from the moment she makes the decision to give her baby up for adoption through her journey to find the peace she craves. I couldn't put the book down until the last word was read. It's unbelievable that this is the author's first book. I'll be looking for her next work in contemporary fiction.

Couldn't put it down!

I picked this book up yesterday and just read the last page now... I couldn't put it down! This was a heart-warming tale of a young woman's journey through adoption and motherhood. It was my favorite type of book; where you develop a relationship with the characters and want to know what will happen in their lives next. Definitely worth getting!

A new voice in women's fiction

WHILE THE DAFFODILS DANCED weaves a poetic tale of a young woman who gives up a child for adoption and learns to live with the consequences of her actions. All of the characters in this book come across with the reality of their human foibles. The heroine's journey is mirrored in the field of wildflowers that she paints onto her canvasses. This is real life told from an artist's point of view. A lovely read.
