In a world where an AI has taken control and everything is stagnant a freak storm shakes up the life of a small town farmer.Cadoc a small town farmer stuck in a rut, struggling to be noticed in any way by his fellow towns folk for anything other than his enormity and lack of wit. A storm devastates the village and he is forced against the many superstitions that keep people in the village to leave, he discovers there is a lot more to his world than he could have imagined, he faces the Gwyllgi a creature that haunts the nightmares of the village people, a tribe of vicious cannibals and encounters a strange man from outside his small section of the world. Cadoc returns torn by having committed his first murder having lived his whole life in a grey area things now appear black and white, the villagers can't help but notice him and his strange new friend from beyond. Changed by his experience outside the village, Cadoc finds himself lost, once more he leaves behind his village. Up high in the mountains at the border of the sector he is captured and taken to the Hollow house. There he is introduced to technology and violence beyond the limits of humanity. Finally after passing his assessment he is given the "gift" and is set on a mission by the mysterious Ai.
