Where Riches Lie

In the late 1800's and based on a true story, a cunning and determined blonde beauty from London sets out on a quest for illusive wealth in the American West, where she sacrifices everything, including her life, with her murder still a mystery, to this day.In the late 1800's and based on a true story, a cunning and determined blonde beauty from London sets out on a quest for illusive wealth, during the gold rush in the American West, where she sacrifices everything on an epic journey to overcome powerful men, withstand punishing elements, and endure a legendary love triangle that ultimately ends in murder...her murder, which still remains a mystery. Poor from birth, Elizabeth "Lizzie" King grows up as a servant to wealthy estate owners whose only son is destined to inherit the estate and the title that goes with it. Richard King offers to give her anything she wants if she will simply stay in England with him... as his wife. Only in his dreams can he imagine where she will lead him. Fueled by passion, inspired by her dying father and emotionally tormented by her drunken, promiscuous mother, Lizzie is hell-bent on going to America where she will join the rush for gold, establish her own business and forge out a new life as far removed from her old one as possible. This epic time piece follows our protagonist from London to San Francisco in the company of her life-long friend, Richard, who is supposedly her husband, perhaps for the sake of how things look and for her protection as well. Lizzie meets the bootlegging X-confederate Civil War deserter, Tennessee Tyler, who is still on the run from the law. Her charm quickly takes Tennessee hostage as he agrees to guide Lizzie into inhospitable territory plagued by warring Indians, wild beasts, wild men, and wilder weather. Lizzie meets many colorful characters with equally fascinating back-stories deep in central Idaho's gold mining district where Lizzie brings them all under her spell. Antagonists, Governor Charles Franklin and his neurotic partner, Redmund "The Rabbit" Tyree have fatal conflicting interests as Charles promotes the bustling boomtowns of Custer and Bonanza, while making huge real estate deals with investors. Redmund sides with the native Indians and attempts to run off new prospectors while he doggedly searches for the lost gold mine from which he once escaped (supposedly a myth that is purportedly the Mother Lode of all time) if only he could find it again. Between the Chinese opium dens, the prostitutes of the "Red Light District", the hostile Sheep- eater Indians, greedy capitalists, the lucky Irish and the New York thugs, the subplots are intricately woven and converge around leading lady, Lizzie King, nick-named "The Queen of England" who becomes the object of desire for everyone and tragically becomes a legend.
