From the mouths, minds, and memories of Black womxn, "bitch" exists as an insight into our everyday dealings of what it means to exist in the world the way we do. It comes through in our exhale-filled laughter, our relationships with one another, our maturity from adolescence into adulthood, our conceptions of self, and much more. From the words of a Black womxn who sat on my futon, "Nobody else is going to get it. But that's our gem... It's our history. It's our protection... You can't see how a word is used as protection when you have never needed protection in your lifetime, due to your privilege. And that's what's so astounding. And that's why it's so funny when you see a group of Black women using the word. It's kept in the circle. No one else is understanding what is going on. But them." Through engaging with 22 Black womxn in what I call, "The Bitch Conversations," I sought to illuminate the compelling space that bitch holds for us in how we deal, love, heal, and hurt. This book, a dedication to the Black womxn I spoke with and the Black womxn who read it, simply begins to uncover what it means when We say Bitch.
