Sometimes you just want to read a good old fashioned love story, and this is it. This is a historical fiction book for young adults based on actual events and people. Ordinary people live interesting lives, they just need someone to tell their story. Robert Nelson and Cathie Wojtanowski live in two different states and live two different lives. Both poor and growing up in the shadow of World War II, they have paths they plan to follow. Robert is from Manitowoc, Wisconsin and is an only child. He is set on joining the draft after high school and then attending college to pursue higher education. Cathie is from Detroit, Michigan and is the youngest of six children in a single parent home. She is determined to be the first in her family to graduate high school and plans to settle down in Detroit near her family and friends. Their stories start just before high school and follow them into high school and beyond. Each of them has to face tragic circumstances involving those close to them that push them to change their original paths, paths that will eventually cross.
