When the Sun Sets on the Purple Lily is a novel, and also the third and concluding installment of the 'A Trail of Words' series. The narrative follows Lily, Rose's daughter. Despite having cerebral palsy, Lily has aspirations like her peers; however, she doubts her most cherished dream will come true, even though it seems effortless for others. She aspires to meet her soulmate, yet due to her disability and lack of prior romantic relationships, she fears it may remain unfulfilled. Nevertheless, she has encountered an individual online who offers her optimism. She and Daniel communicate daily, fostering a developing connection. He has profoundly impacted her life and provided her with a renewed perspective on her aspirations becoming reality. Although they grow closer, Lily begins to question whether she is sufficient for him, suspecting that he merits someone better, despite his assurances that she is the one he loves. One day, while riding her horse, Tulip, on her property, she discovers a trail with the most exquisite flowers she has ever encountered. It quickly becomes apparent that something remarkable lies along this trail. It would also comfort Lily when Daniel stops talking to her because of her insecurities. Heartbroken, she spends time along the trail and helping her mom at FAITH Ranch, a program Rose started where children with disabilities ride horses each summer. Lily is thankful for the activity but still misses Daniel. When Rose employs a new ranch hand, Michael, he helps the two female attendants mount the children on horses, relieving them of a challenging task. Lily and Michael form a friendship, and she grows to appreciate his company. Though she develops romantic feelings, she denies them, convinced Daniel will return, viewing the trail as the fulfillment of her prayers. In the meantime, she reproaches herself for the emerging feelings she is developing towards Michael. Does she have the courage to consider the possibility that Michael may indeed be her destined partner?
