It was supposed to be simple, if not easy: track down a person of interest, find out what they know, and eliminate the renewed Titan threat before war breaks out (again). But nothing's ever simple, and it's certainly never easy.

Bryony Harper used to be a war hero, but now she's an unemployed Metaphet junkie with a bad reputation and a crime boss on her tail. So when the United Human Alliance offers her a job and a chance to get off Qorra Station, she jumps at it. Even if she does have to take the gangster's daughter along with her.

It's going to be tricky, and if she gets caught, the UHA will disavow her and any knowledge of her mission, leaving her and her team stuck in enemy hands. She expects the mission to be tricky, but when she brings old squad mates on to join her-including hot-headed Malia and broody, almost-flame Kai-she has to face her former friends as well as the Titan threat.

The mission turns deadly, if not downright impossible, when they end up in enemy space, and Bryony is desperate to keep tensions within her own ship from boiling over long enough for them to complete their mission and get out alive.
