When Mountains Fell

The armies ravaged each other mercilessly. Men screamed in pain as blades tore into flesh, leaving gaping wounds. Bodies fell off to the ground like pendulous fruits dropping off a tree. The soil and grass turned red and wet with blood. It wasn't long before the scavengers hovered over cadavers...

This historical novel, set in the 19th century, a period of intense despair across the African continent chronicles the stories of the following Monarchs: Dingane of AmaZulu, who together with his brother Mhlangana and Mbopha an assistant to King Shaka, under the guidance of their capricious aunt, Mkabayi, assassinate Shaka to usurp the Zulu throne. Mzilikazi of AmaNdebele, who fled from Zwide of the powerful AmaNdwandwe to Shaka for protection. Soshangane, Nxaba and Zwangendaba, AmaNdwandwe generals who fled from Shaka's wrath to the north to form their own kingdoms. Sebitwane of BaKololo who also fled from Shaka to form his own kingdom in the north. Mpande of AmaZulu, who deposes Dingane to wrench the throne. It also details the rebellion of the Voortrekkers against British sovereignty.
