October 9, 1941 - Wehrmacht Captain Hartmut Winkler arrives in Oslo to lead the confiscation of the properties of the Jews in Norway. He works side by side with the brutal SS Captain Hans Petter Fuchs. Winkler meets and falls deeply in love with the beautiful and witty Hedda Berg, a former nurse who became a secretary in the collaborationist Quisling administration. Consorting with a German officer, Hedda becomes a Tyskerjenta - a German's Girl -earning her the ire of her Norwegian compatriots. Hedda bears a son with Winkler and unsuspectingly becomes part of the Nazi's Lebensborn Program to promote the procreation of "racially pure Aryan children." The Nazis considered Norwegians as the embodiment of the Aryan race - white, tall, blond, and blue-eyed. Unbeknownst to Captain Winkler, Hedda's brother Karl, who teaches Geology at the University of Oslo, works for Milorg, the Norwegian resistance movement. When he finds out that the Gestapo is looking for Karl, Winkler must make the most important decision in his life to protect his wife and son. Fate entangles people's lives in a story of love and courage, conquering shame, cruelty, betrayal, and hate in a turbulent historical time.
