When Love Became a Slave: Freedom to Love without Discrimination and Prejudice

This book portrays a black man and a white woman who fall in love during slavery. Fear embraces them both because being together would jeopardize their lives. He eventually dies. Before his death, he prayed that the next generation would be able to experience love without prejudice. This book has a lot of imagery. It is an Epic poem written in the form of a love story. This is an ancient slavery narrative. A man and woman were trying to understand love amid chaos.

The next generation starts with the deceased man's son who is also a black slave. He has his first love-making encounter with a Caucasian lady. He fears death and escapes. Already married, he returns home to his wife, but things aren't the same. Both were taught by their ancestors to never detour from their heritage or date outside of their race. They became more confused after seeing people of different races embrace each other. The husband reveals his infidelity and now trust is broken. To reunite with his wife, God intervenes and reveals His majesty. He also teaches them a lesson that everyone has the right to love regardless of race or color.

The first nine sections are written with rhymes and passion like a Romeo and Juliet swing to it. It teaches that when you cannot freely love someone from the heart, you become bound like a slave. Happiness based upon other people's interpretation will never allow you to come "Up from Slavery." Freedom to express oneself and not allow others to dictate your happiness will give you joy and fulfillment.

The final section is Part 10, which provides enrichment lessons through poems and wisdom nuggets. The total goal of this book is for people to understand that slavery is not just about Blacks coming over on a ship to American and else. It can be applied to any situation where a person is born, but cannot become the person they were destined to be.
