'When Jesus Walked' was inspired by a Reading from Edgar Cayce. The Reading (#333), speaks of a Roman soldier named Phlons who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. Cayce says that "A whole history might be written here of this (individual)..." He concludes his three-paragraph Reading about Phlons' by saying "This should be written!"'When Jesus Walked' fulfills Cayce's prophecy by telling the story of Phlons from his arrival in Judea, chance meeting with Jesus, the crucifixion, and Phlons journey back to Rome where he befriends the early Christians.
