A personal view of history.

When H-i-t-l-e-r Stole Pink Rabbit (2019) Original title: Als H-i-t-l-e-r das rosa Kaninchen stahl I read the book some time ago. The novel's story is told from the perspective of Anna. It parallels that of the author and illustrator Judith Kerr, who was forced to leave Germany in 1933. The only film version I could stream was German with English subtitles. Somewhere out there is one dubbed in English. They rattle too fast to understand, so we are stuck with the subtitles and hope they are correct. At least Dorothea Kemper (Carla Juri) speaks clearly and slowly enough to keep up with. Even though there is not a wasted word, you feel like the movie is dragging on and on. In the book, Anna only knows she is Jewish because her father says so. In the movie, they mention it, but Anna says, “But not proper ones”. However, it is enough to force the family to flee Germany (1933) due to the oncoming of the Nazi regime. She will travel to several countries, learning the language and staying one step ahead of the spreading Nazi influence. In her travels, she learns of many concepts, including the confiscation of her "Pink Rabbit." Anna still maintains the innocence of her youth. But problems and dealing with people can happen at any age.
