The year is 2005. The location is Saint Landry Parish, Louisiana. This was their bicentennial year. Chief Deputy Marvin L. Barnett is in charge. The only marching order the sheriff left for him was, "Whatever you do, don't let the wheels fall off." The problem was, the wheels started coming off right after he left. Specifically, the parish had suddenly become inundated with a crime spree which was blowing through like a Cat 5 hurricane, the likes of which the parish had never experienced. It was sink or swim. Marvin, aided by all the other deputies, had some vicious and some not so vicious criminals to bring to justice, hopefully before Sheriff Ladner returned. It was a tall order.
