Great for indepth study

This book is a great study "text" for seeing the work of the Holy Spirit from Genesis through Revelation. It also includes a breakdown of the Fruit & Gifts of the Spirit. It is full of scripture references which is great for teaching, preaching or further study of the Holy Spirit. Not a recreational type reader.

What the Bible Says About the Holy Spirit

This book is very informative, unbiased and totally "on the mark" as to being Scriptural. It is "reader-friendly" and as it was recommended to me, I would encourage anyone who seeks the truth to read this book.

Classic Reading on the Holy Spirit

Dr. Stanley Horton is one of the greatest theologians the Pentecostal movement has ever had. His writings are clear, biblical, and easy to follow. His word usuage is great and he avoids utalizing his vast information to overwhelm his readers.This book is a classic on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Horton writes as a classical Pentecostal and he strongly believes that we need a sound understanding of the Holy Spirit in order to effectively minister in these last days.The book covers the entire biblical teaching on the Holy Spirit from Genesis to Revelation. Dr. Horton breaks the study down into various themes from creation to salvation. His insights into the work of the Spirit in the Old Testament are great as well as his writing on the gifts of the Spirit in the church today.While I did not fully agree with all of Dr. Horton's writing in this book, I do believe this is a must read for any person studying the Pentecostal view of the Holy Spirit.

A Solid Book

This book is a very thorough analysis of the role of the Holy Spirit throughout the entire Bible. One of the most interesting chapters is the role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. I found it very enlightening. This book is not for new Christians or beginner theologians, but more for theologians at the intermediate level. Sometimes it is hard to read because the sentence structure is interrupted by Biblical references in the middle of a sentence. Bible references should be footnoted at the end of the chapter. I recommend a person be very well versed in the Old Testament before buying this book.

A Classic Study by an Outstanding Pentecostal Scholar

Published in 1976, this book is a modern Pentecostal classic in pneumatology (the study of the Holy Spirit). Stanley Horton, Th.D., is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Bible and Theology at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Mo. He is a third generation Pentecostal who profoundly influenced the course of Assemblies of God theology. His academic expertise (including a mastery of the biblical languages) set a high standard for Pentecostals. He has authored many books and is the editor of Logion Press' Systematic Theology (Rev. Ed.) text, a scholarly composition by A/G ministers on important Bible doctrines. For those who want to know more about Mr. Horton, see the article on him in the Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, edited by Burgess and McGee. In this book, the author topically analyzes the Bible book by book, applying sound hermeneutical principles to reveal what scripture says about the Holy Spirit. The author deals with the Holy Spirit in (by chapter title)... 1) The World Today, 2) The Pentateuch, 3) The History of Israel, 4) The Writing Prophets, 5) The Life and Ministry of Jesus, 6) The Teaching of Jesus, 7) The Book of Acts, 8) Everyday Living, 9) The Ministry of Believers, 10) The Ministry of the Church, and 11) Supernatural Demonstrations. One will learn about the titles and symbols of the Holy Spirit along with His personality and deity and His gifts and fruit. The Pentecostal distinctive of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial, physical evidence of speaking in other tongues is also discussed. Another excellent companion volume to this classic is "The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal Perspective" by Thomas Holdcroft.
