Throughout history, societies have appropriated space to establish territories. This development of space often leads to the disruption of ecosystems and significant degradation of the environment and living conditions. This study analyzed the negative impacts of the high concentration of population and economic activities in the coastal city of Lom (Togo). The methodology employed relied on literature review, surveys, and structured individual interviews. Additionally, direct observation was conducted to assess the reality on the ground. The results show that the high concentration of population and economic activities in the city of Lom , to the detriment of the rest of the territory, compounded by the site's fragility, has significant negative impacts. The problems of environmental degradation and deterioration of the living environment inherent in this situation have now reached an unprecedented scale. Envisaging solutions through rational spatial planning of economic activities constitutes the main guidelines for rational spatial management in Togo.
