Great Book - Looking Forward to Next One

I met Drake - the author recently and I got the book for my future step-daughter who is seven. I thought I'd give it a read first to see what the content was like, now I'm reading it to her. Here's my feedback: I liked the story within the story, very complex and ingenious - the way the author used Tommy's comic book series was very good. Just enough details were leaked, but not too many so I didn't guess the ending. I liked the character development and the way we got a good visualization of the places they went with the use of words. Scott's backpack was unexpected, didn't see that one coming. The attention to detail is spot on. I have to admit, I did go back and re-read what Tommy took with him when he went to look for Cujo, I had forgotten about the flashlight...Great read for both kids and adults.

Great kids' sci-fi

We met the author and bought the book at the Decatur Book Festival. I started casually glancing through it and the next thing you know I was arguing with my son about whether he could start reading it because I was so sucked into the story! I eventually acted like the adult (!) and let him start reading it instead of making him wait for me to finish and he had the same reaction. From the minute he started, he couldn't put it down. He is 8 and I thought the material might be too old for him but he had no trouble with it. While this is definately a Sci-Fi story, there is an honesty in the characters' interaction that rings true. It is sort of an all American alien adventure. Enjoy!

A very funny read!

My 9 year old daughter met this author at a literary festival and wanted to book. She DEVOURED it. She loved it. She read it non-stop from when she received it till she was finished and I frequently heard her giggle as she was reading it.

Fantastic!!

I loved this book!! I picked it up for my niece but ended up reading it myself. I totally got sucked in. I can't wait to find out what adventure Tommy gets into next. I'm not the age range for this book but it still entertained me. I highly recommend it. AND my niece loved it too!! Great for kids age 7 and up!
