The story was really unique and I love T Kingfisher's work but this one didn't hook me like some others. Worth the read since it's a fairly short book, though.

I sometimes feel like novellas are more challenging and nuanced for authors, because they have to really have their storytelling skills dialed in. Kingfisher excels in that, builds tension, yet keeps a delightfully playful edge.

I want to like T. Kingfisher’s work as much as everyone else does but it so rarely speaks to me. The ideas are there but the execution (to me) is luckluster.
