Synopsis: What If... is a collection of fictional short stories involving human reactions, horror, and humor. Most of these stories were derived while driving between farms and are loosely based on whimsical thoughts and personal experiences, and encouraged by a high school English teacher and "The Twilight Zone".

Autobiography: Joseph Ingerson Mahar grew up on a small farm in southern Michigan. He attended Michigan State University and Rutgers University, earning degrees in biology and entomology. Joe served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia from 1970 through 1972. Joe had a forty-two-year career in Integrated Pest Management, helping farmers manage crop pests in Michigan and New Jersey, retiring from Rutgers University in 2023. Joe and his wife, Susan, raised five kids.
