A Very Insightful Read

This book by Minton has been extremely enlightening. As an undergraduate student about to graduate to work on her Teacher's Certification and Masters in Education, this book has provided me with information that will certainly improve my understanding. I had never analyzed the relationships present between numeracy and literacy. Reading in math is also a skill that has not been emphasized and this book does a good job expressing the connections and the need to teach strategies for reading math in the classroom. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interesting in teaching math.

A must for every elementary teacher!

This book has begun great conversations in our school with our teachers. It has allowed teachers to talk about the ideas about numeracy through a friendly lens of literacy. The book is written in a manner conducive to inviting readers to reflect on their own practice in light of the ideas shared in the book. We have loved it and will continue to offer ongoing conversation time as we develop our numeracy instruction strategies.
