What I Ate to survive: Using food as medicine

How would you feel if you were diagnosed with cancer? Perhaps you'd experience anxiety about the treatment, fear about what lies ahead, and concern for your loved ones. I once felt the same way. In the summer of 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery. However, soon after the surgery, it was discovered that the cancer had metastasized throughout my body, and I was told by the doctor that I had only one month to live. I felt overwhelmed by despair. Now, ten years later, I'm still here -- a future I could not have imagined back then. At the time, I was scouring blogs daily, desperate to find someone who had been given a life expectancy and was still living beyond it for years. Breast cancer, triple negative, a rare form of spindle cell cancer, recurrent metastasis, no cure, but still alive. I kept looking for such a person, but I could not find them. But I did not give up. While undergoing anticancer treatment, I sought ways to support my body by being creative with my diet. And now I am living my 10th year of life post-diagnosis. Have you ever heard the claim that anticancer drugs shorten a person's life expectancy? While it is true that these drugs can have side effects that weaken your body and increase the risk of infections, I can assure you that the idea of them reducing your overall life expectancy is not accurate. Anticancer drugs are a treatment that has the potential to "prolong life." I had a one month life expectancy, but I have lived for 10 years thanks to anticancer drug treatment. And perhaps it was my diet that supported the treatment. It is widely known that diet is important in the treatment of cancer, but "what to eat and how to eat it" is surprisingly unknown. Even if you take in foods that are said to be effective for cancer, your condition may not improve. The reason for this is that diet should be considered as part of the treatment, not merely just for nutritional support. In this book, I have written about "yakuzen for anticancer" that I have used, particularly to help those debating whether to start anticancer drug treatments, those struggling with side effects during treatment, and their families. Anticancer treatment is sometimes accompanied by strong side effects: loss of appetite, nausea, and fatigue, just to name a few. However, with the right diet, you can maintain your ability to continue treatment. What should you eat to fight cancer? What foods help the body? I will share the answers to these questions with practical examples. I was able to continue my anticancer treatment by changing my food choices and adopting a diet that strengthened my body. A supportive diet can do wonders for your health, enhancing the effectiveness of your treatment. I hope this book will be of some help to all those facing cancer.
