A chance to learn

Why do we read? Well the answer lies in this book. It is a story that shows us the remarkable struggles of three families and hidden strengths that develop from unsuspecting sources into a hopeful future. This story can at times be dark and trecherous as it deals with the injust legacy of colonialism; yet it also deals with a brighter topic in the power that we as a species has to overcome ineffable odds. Please read this book as it is a learning experience and a true foundation of beatiful literature.

A True Classic

A beautiful story of three families (all from different backgrounds) Extending over four generations. The story takes place in South Africa in the late 1800's in a society based in colonialism and apartheid, to the release of Nelson Mandela.

a powerful reading experience

As I began reding "What Hope Have You!" I started to visuallize the land scape and enviroment of South Africa and was amazed at how accuarate an acounting the descriptions were. I have been to South Africa four times and as I read on it felt like I was there again. The authors take on the variouse conflicts that evolve in the story are realisticly enlightening. The story is source of the harsh domestic life that exists outside the safe chrysalys that we often forget we reside in.

A Truely Magnifigant Start for a New Auther

From the opening pages, the reader is drawn into the lives of three different families; English, Afrikaans, and Black. The book provides a wonderful insight into the family life of these three different ethnic groups. The book spans four generations and tells how the lives of the families become intertwined. The reader ends up having a very clear idea of why apartheid began and how it effected the social,ecomnomic and political aspects of South Africa. It is a very entertaining, educational and enjoyable book to read.
