Martín wants his pet goat Chato to go into the barn before dark so a chupacabras won't eat him but oddly the goat isn't afraid of the spooky monster. Martín doesn't understand because he is very afraid of the creepy creatures that have green skin, terrifying red eyes and sharp claws! Suddenly, a chupacabras appears! Martín begs it not to eat him, "Look, I'm all skin and bones." To his surprise, the chupacabras says he doesn't eat little boys. In subsequent pages, the animal reveals that he doesn't eat little girls, goats, pigs, chickens or cows. The boy is really confused because everyone says chupacabras eat all those things. Then he wonders, "So, what do you like to eat?" In this engaging bilingual picture book about a scary beast from Latin American lore, Martín learns that chupacabras aren't as frightening as everyone thinks they are. In fact, they eat many of the same things he loves, like bean and cheese tacos, pizza with lots of cheese, salads, fruit and mango popsicles! Children ages 4-8 will enjoy this book that builds on Martín's confusion about something he has been fearful of--for no reason!
