What Can Be Known about Jesus from Outside the Gospels?

Most of what we know about Jesus is found in the Gospel records. Traditionally, these canonical Gospels have been used almost exclusively as scholars were convinced that these were the earliest and best Christian sources. While the canonical Gospels give us the fullest picture of Jesus, there are numerous other sources. These sources are both within the canonical New Testament and outside. The sources outside the New Testament are written by both Christian and non-Christian writers. The task of this book is to present what can be known of Jesus from outside of the Gospels. This book evaluates both Christian and non-Christian historical sources. Although short and not in depth, this book gives a fairly comprehensive overview of the evidence for the historical Jesus. Many, if not most, of the earliest historical mentions of Jesus are noted in this book, but none of them is covered in depth. This book can help the reader understand that Jesus was a true historical figure.
