In a Vacation Bible School lesson regarding Father Abraham's challenge from Creator GOD to "offer your only son Isaac for a burnt offering," the presenter said, "Abraham had to have faith to do what GOD was asking of him." One person in the class asked the question, "Faith in what?"
That turned out to be the most important question I've ever heard in any Bible study lesson or Sunday School class because it pushed the entire class towards critical thinking; the process of making observations and arguments (analysis) based on facts and evidence. The simplest example of critical thinking is the seemingly precocious toddler always asking the age old question to any instruction they don't want to comply with. "Why?"
What About HIS Resurrection delves into the comparison between Jesus' disciples abandoning HIM the night HE was arrested in Gethsemane's olive grove with the fact that none of them ever ran another day of their lives when threatened with death, dismemberment, and wild beasts. Faith is not some whimsical flighty wish but is founded on fact, Scripture promises, and even the confirmation of the five physical senses.
