Nick is a normal guy who is just too busy wishing his life away to bother with anything else. Testicular Cancer was a "young man's game", so the fact he was two years away from his half century, surely meant he was safe from the clutches of the grim reaper, waving his scythe menacingly in the direction of his meat and two veg. It couldn't happen to him ...could it ? However, when he started getting an aching sensation down below and the initial self-prognosis of a groin strain got less plausible, the thoughts of having to visit the doctor to "let him have a good old feel" became the only viable option. Beck, Nicks better half, joins him on the journey and although she remains positive at every turn, her "you will be fine" reiteration, gets brushed aside like a meeting between an excited fan and an overzealous body guard, time and time again. "What a right old ball-ache" relives the medical process that is followed when TC joins the party. It relives the horrors of having a total stranger rummage around with your pocket billiards, and then the scary journey it takes, when something wrong is discovered with the said balls on that billiard table. Nick has to come to terms with his own mortality and yearns for those days of when the only thing he had to worry about, was if the Child Maintenance Department would ever sort out there internal workings and actually run their organisation properly. He reflects on life, love, children, family and asks many important questions along the way like ...why are so many doctors receptionists miserable and why is there another man watching me have my testicles smothered in gel and then massaged, by what can only be described as a vibrating computer mouse ? There are moments of despair, flashes of joy and numerous instances of utter foolishness, but overall, there is an honesty about what to expect if you are ever diagnosed with Testicular Cancer.
