Book One: The Mosquito Fleet. Joe is the sea captain of the Mourning Dove, a 70-foot salmon troller. Among the 200 trollers, all ages and sizes cross the bar early for a good day of salmon fishing, midday a sudden massive storm comes at the Mosquito Fleet, and many do not return to the small fishing village on the Washington Coast. Quint the Station Master of the USCG Station at Westport plays an integral part in saving many lives and too is Joe's best friend as he tries to console him with not only the friends he has lost.
Quint also tries to console Joe with a new relationship. When Joe meets Nina, a new waitress at Pelican Petes, there is an instant attraction. From the start though their relationship is strained because of a past traumatic incident that has created a destructive lifestyle for her and also strains the relationship with Joe beyond what is normal.
Book Two: The Parolee: Joe takes on parolees to help in their rehabilitation. 80% of parolees usually end up back in prison. Joe fears though he may have met his match when he takes on Max. This new parolee, convicted of murder one when 16, has served hard time for 13 years. Joe although reluctant is willing to try because he does need a full crew for crabbing season, but Gus, his first mate, is still very skeptical. Max can't believe his Clancy, his parole officer, has placed him on a fishing boat. Clancy warns Max it's either the fishing boat or back he goes to McNeal Island, a maximum-security prison.
Max meets Gretchen at a local saloon, the Mutineer. A very pretty girl, who is attracted to him. Max also likes her but is uneasy about it because he fears she won't accept he was in prison for Murder One. Although Joe is proud of his crew, it saddens him none consider God a priority. Still, he feels God has brought them aboard for some reason and this is good enough for him.
Book Three, Terror on the High Seas is full of the unpredictable. When a new first mate, later realized is connected to a drug cartel, tries to take over the troller, the ordeal creates much trouble for them all. The unexpected creates life threatening problems for everyone. Daniel tries to talk Max into going in with the supposed drug drop. But taking over the boat causes a big dilemma for Max. He agrees to the plan at first, because it means a chance at some money and some real freedom. Later changing his mind because of the strong attachment that has developed with Joe and the rest of the crew.
Rough waters on shore erupt between Joe and Nina when she hears Joe was in prison for manslaughter. Although this was when he was much younger, Nina feels betrayed and is now unable to trust him. Not really wanting to break up with him, she withdraws into a world of her own
On one outing, a rogue wave comes at the Dove and the troller drops several feet and Max falls overboard into a rough sea. There's much doubt they can get Max back aboard, but when Joe prays, the sea calms in a miraculous way. Still, it is a struggle to bring Max aboard who later realizes this was a true miracle.
A thriller sea story loaded with action, adventure and romance it also includes some history due to Westport's Lifeboat Station that dates back to the late 1700s. It has always been one of the most active CSG Stations on the west coast.
Many surprises come at Joe, Nina and Max and the others from every direction. Whether they weather the many storms offers a unique action-packed adventure full of surprises, emotions and romance guaranteed to hold the reader's attention from beginning to end.
