West Coast E. W. Industry: Over a Hundred Years of Technology and the People Who Made It Work

By Robert L. Simmen

For your intellectual curiosity:

Electronic Warfare (EW) uses the entire Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) to detect, deceive, disrupt, or destroy an enemy's Command and Control capabilities, while ensuring friendly control of the spectrum and denying its use to adversaries. It consists of three primary components: Electronic Attack (jamming), Electronic Protection (shielding), and Electronic Support (threat analysis).

EW has been a critical necessity for the safety of our nation for more than three-quarters of a century. It can be applied from air, sea, land, or space, by crewed and uncrewed systems and can target communication, radar, vehicular and weapon systems performance and other assets. It's annual revenues are multiple-billions of dollars for over 100 companies employing hundreds of thousands of skilled workers in the US alone
