Interestiing and insightful book!

After visiting Wellesley I still wasn't sure that I had the whole story and wanted to know more about the school. When I found this book I got what I was looking for. The perspective was great, and different than anything else I've found out there. College Prowler gave me insight into student life and talked about diversity which is one of the things I really haven't been able to get a straight answer on. Now I really feel like I know the school better and can make a more educated decision about college. Thanks!

Accurate, entertaining, useful

This is an incredibly useful book. If you are a prospective student and you are trying to figure out if Wellesley is a good match for you, get this. Read this. It's funny, it's to the point, and it's accurate. It's a very easy read, and I think it will really help you figure out if you belong here. It's hard to know, before you come (or even once you're here), but this College Prowler guide gives you a really good picture of what it's like to exist at this school -- how stressful it is, how satisfying it is, what it really means to live in an all-female environment, the main social climates, and what it's going to be like day to day. I'm a current Wellesley student, and this is a strange, strange place. The media has a perverse fascination with our isolation and our femininity; every few years, there is a really distorted, sexualized portrait of Wellesley in the news, like the outside world can't help but speculate about what happens to the minds and bodies of young women in an artificial environment like this. The Rolling Stone article from 2001? Mona Lisa Smile? The stories about Dyke Ball in 2005? It's nothing like that. Not at all. This guide is extremely frank and accurate, in my opinion, at describing the true nature of this environment and how people make lives for themselves here. I also really appreciate that this book seems to survey a lot of different kinds of people and gives you a picture of all the little communities that coexist on campus that can make the Wellesley experience what it is for each individual. If you are trying to choose a college, this book can help you as much -- if not more -- than a college tour or discussion with a current student or alum. This book admits to the complexities, nuances, and ambivalence of Wellesley in a very thoughtful, intelligent, and frank manner.
