We'll Be in Touch

By Eric W.

One job posting. Six people who are sure it was written for them. And a system none of them can see.

Loopline just closed its Series C, and it's hiring. The role "Growth & Ops Manager" is vague enough to mean five different things to five different people, and every one of them is right.

There's Wei Jie, who does everything correctly and is quietly punished for not performing it. Chloe, twenty-four, who's mistaken one viral post for a career. Vincent, forty-six and freshly retrenched, sanding down a decade of seniority so he won't frighten anyone. Mei Ling, a teacher of fourteen years whose entire skill set is invisible to the software that reads her first. And Bryan, who has never once had to wonder whether he'd get the callback.

Watching over all of it is Faye, the recruiter who can see the whole shape of what's happening and still can't stop it - and Richard, the founder, calling in one small, decent, catastrophic favour for an old friend.

We'll Be in Touch is a sharp, tender, quietly devastating satire about hiring, work, and the machinery of modern unfairness, where no one is a villain, everyone is a little bit right, and the cruelty assembles itself, quietly, out of a hundred reasonable decisions.

For anyone who has ever hit "submit" and heard nothing back.
