Welcome to the Family!: A Foundational Introduction to Your New Christian Family (Grace Groups Discipleship Curriculum)

Welcome to the family. You are going through these lessons because you have embraced the message of Christianity, the Gospel. It embraces you as well! "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (Jn. 1:12-13)According to the verses above, once you receive Christ, He welcomes you into His family. You are born anew, and ready to grow.That growth begins with being "rooted". In this introductory booklet, we want to see you rooted in the foundational concepts of the faith. This was Paul's prayer for the Colossians Christians."Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed . . ." (Colossians 2:6-7).Notice the progress in verse 6, once you receive Christ, you must walk with Him. That walking motion happens as you are rooted, but and established in the faith. With our current study, we want to be sure you are rooted in the faith you have received. In subsequent lessons, we will build on that rooted soil with lessons that are designed to build you and establish you. Our current lesson, then, is like a map of where we are headed with the rest of the booklets in this curriculum. In the rest of the series, we will get deeper into each of the areas on the map. These studies survey Christian doctrine (what to know) and practice (what to do) from the Bible. This first booklet will hit the high points of many of the other studies on the map so you can get a view of where we are headed and survey the whole trip right from the beginning.We hope you have a good Christian friend to help you go along this booklet. If not, please let us know so we can connect you with a good church near you. This study is good for you to do on your own, but it is really helpful to work on these lessons with a fellow brother or sister in the Christian family.As Pastors at Grace, we want to encourage you to grow in the faith, and it is our sincere prayer that God will use this as a tool in His hands to point you to His growing and sustaining Word.
