Jeffrey James McNibble has one simple goal for the first day of 7th grade.
Look normal.
That is it. He does not need to be popular. He does not need to be cool. He does not even need to be amazing. He just wants to make it through the day without becoming the kid everyone talks about in the cafeteria.
Unfortunately, normal is not exactly Jeffrey's specialty.
Before school even starts, Jeffrey steps in cat barf, misses the bus, and has to ride his little sister's tiny bike, Princess Thunderbell, all the way to Sneezeville Falls Middle School. The bike has streamers. It has a basket. It has a cheerful bell that rings at the worst possible times.
Then things get worse.
An ice cream truck, a minivan full of cheerleaders, and one very unlucky fire hydrant turn Jeffrey's morning into a soaking wet disaster. By the time he reaches school, he has been escorted to the front office, lectured by Principal Barksalot, and stared at by practically everyone.
And that is only the beginning.
Soon Jeffrey is failing a quiz because he missed the directions, getting stuck with the nickname Quiz Boy, hearing wild rumors about himself in the hallway, and making one very bad decision involving the forbidden teacher's lounge.
Inside, he finds stale snacks, old coffee, a suspicious pizza box, and a rat that acts like it owns the school.
