Weimar Duke Bernhard: Protestant hero of the Thirty Years War

The Saxe-Weimar Duke Bernhard (1604-1639), a politically ambitious Protestant general, was one of the most successful warlords of his time. Thanks to his numerous victories over the forces of the Austrian Habsburgs during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), Duke Bernhard was called the savior of the faith by Protestants.
When the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf entered the war in 1631, Bernhard joined the Swedish army. A capable officer, by 1632, he rose from colonel in the royal guard to general. When Gustav Adolf was killed at the Battle of L?tzen (1632), Bernhard took command and defeated the troops under the command of the Duke of Wallenstein. The novel tells about the events that took place after the death of Gustav Adolphus at the Battle of L?tzen and about the role of Duke Bernhard in the Thirty Years War.
