In 1956 Georgia, William Ralston has strayed from his Protestant flock. That says something when he's the pastor of his local congregation. However, a string of misfortunes has made him question his faith. This leads to actions he normally would've despised. It also leads to trouble in the form of a teenage female. Allie McAllister's mother has recently passed away. With no other family remaining, she moves in with her wealthy and influential uncle. Unfortunately, her uncle has a taste for young girls, and he uses his dominant position to satisfy his urges. Allie quickly grows resentful--a change that manifests through fist fights. Then she crosses paths with a similarly aggrieved pastor. With Allie and Pastor Bill spiritually lost, they embark on a voyage through the summertime south. The excursion seems simple enough--run away from their demons. Before long, their journey will include gunfire, death, and the law hot on their heels.
