Miranda Grenville is taking a `break' from her family. She didn't tell anyone where she was going and certainly isn't about to pretend that life's all hunky dory either. Miranda's time away from `everything' results in her being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her paradise retreat becomes a horrifying nightmare when an earthquake strikes and the ground opens up and `swallows' her. Nick Jago, the resident archaeologist, has just learned that he's been betrayed by a woman he trusted with his research. Prepared to drink himself into oblivion he settles in at the altar stone with a bottle of brandy. Next thing he knows he's waking up to a woman's screams that rival the pounding in his head. Trapped together underground in an ancient temple, Miranda and Nick are forced to rely on each other to give them hope. Nick and Miranda don't hit it off right away. She's convinced that he's drunk and he's just contrary enough that he's going to say whatever he thinks just to annoy her. At first they get on each other's nerves but they quickly cling to the fact that they aren't alone. As they work together with their limited supplies to find a way out they discover a sense of security in the darkness and able to unburden themselves. At first they could happily kill each other and then suddenly it's a study in how they manage to keep their hands off each other. If you're looking for a soul stirring tale that makes readers laugh, cry, and look at the world just a little bit differently then WEDDED IN A WHIRLWIND fits the bill perfectly. Nick and Miranda have troubled pasts that they've never fully shared with anyone. The time they spend together talking allows them a new perspective on their lives. While I really enjoyed Miranda and Nick's arguments and their stubborn attitudes I really became `attached' to the characters once they began disclosing the events of their past that made them into the people they are today. Liz Fielding gives readers a fun story full of passion, adventure and believable emotional situations which allow readers to feel like they're a part of the story rather than just a reader.
