The book has helped a whole lot in writing Italian papers and doing exercises. It is very complete and I fully recommend it!

Okay, so buy this book if you really want to learn Italian. If you're just a casual observer, then buy a tour-guide-language-book and learn how to ask where the bathroom is in a foreign language. I will advise that if you do not know English, and I mean REALLY KNOW English, then this book will confuse you. This is not a phrase book, it is a book that will immerse you DEEP into the ins-and-outs of the Italian language. It is not an easy read, but it is effective. I have used this book in Italy, (Treiso, Alba, Costigliole d'Asti, Ranco), and it took me past that point of understanding a foreign language to actually thinking and reasoning in a foreign language. It will not help you pronounce Italian or give you cute phrases to try to commit to memory to impress your friends. No, this is a book for the serious-minded person who wants to know reflexive verbs, past tenses, present tenses, imperatives, etc. So be sure you brush-up on your English skills before you jump into this book. I loved it, I bought a new one after my last Italy trip because I wrote so many notes in it. Buy this book and really learn Italian instead of just trying to memorize phrases.
