The way it was then.

Excellent for anyone who prefers history told by those who were there and are telling it the way they saw it at the time. Not decades later. Historical facts that emerged since are too often irresponsibly presented as facts known then. A Reader.

Excellent Oral History

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. Written shortly after the end of WWII, it beautifully documents 13 stories of survivors of the Nazi regime with the clarity that only freshly captured memories can provide. What makes the book so interesting is not only the level of detail in each story, but the references to arcane events WWII historians will be familiar with. Additionally, many of the story lines intersect (e.g., more than one member of the Kreisau Circle is represented). Humanitarians and WWII historians must own this book.
